Collections of Correct Margins

October 30, 2013

Requirements: Microsoft Word any version

Nowadays in MS Word especially in printing and publishing, we are all having a hard time fit to page our documents because the software itself has no capability in doing so. As for me, I transfer to Coreldraw or create a PDF copy of my MS Word file so I can fit the whole page and no paper bleeding error after printing. Most of the time, we adjust margins according to our estimates, so will get what we want margins of our documents.

Because of these reason, I post some examples of margin I experience that my clients use. I capture them and post it here. Have a look, download and try it for yourself!

Go to Page layout -> Margins and set the following figures below.

Use notepad to remove background color before paste in MS Word

January 31, 2012

TOPIC LEVEL: Intermediate**

Before! I discourage my client to find contents with background color. Because when you paste it to MS Word, you cannot edit its color even using the fill color options in MS Word. So I realize that there is something, there is something that cant read background colors! And that application is… NOTEPAD! Like every other techniques we learn from my site about the usage of Notepad, here is another marvelous trick!

“GET CONTENTS, PASTE IT TO NOTEPAD

and PASTE IT MS WORD!”

That picture is a sample highlighted lyrics website with violet background. The sky blue is the color of highlighted text ready to be copied.

After the contents has been copied, paste it to WORD. And it will looks like this! The violet background is also captured. I discourage this kind of layout, because when you print this kind of document, they are not willing to pay for the colored/black and white background of the text. They will just say: “Sir, it has no picture! Why I will pay for the background color”. So, it’s better to eliminate those backgrounds to make everything in order. Notepad to the rescue! Hehehe…

Since the content are just lyrics, there are no worries in layout. Even it is aligned center, justified or whatever it is, you can just edit that in MS Word later.

Just align it, whatever you want it!

Remember: You can also use this technique for all researches without images or tables. Because notepad is a application with limited capabilities and it doesnt support those features mention. This trick is best for paragraphs, lyrics, poems, and other related text based research.

Using Excel to arrange columns before pasting to MS Word

January 31, 2012

TOPIC LEVEL: Intermediate**

I remember one time, I was playing my favorite game. And then, one one my customer want’s to be assist. I offer my help by controlling his assignment via network. That time, I learn that he is searching for constellations. He went to Google.com and look for constellations. He was satisfied to Wikepedia’s outputs because of its detailed content.

Now as I copy and paste it’s content in MS Word, I notice was wrong. All this contents will not fit it’s whole content even in landscape and in legal size paper.

I analyze this problem and this gives me the idea about MS Excel. Yeah! MS Excel! Because all this contents are using table, table are more manageable in MS Excel. So if you paste the copied contents from the website to excel, you can easily arrange it more better.

Here’s the  sample!

After pasting the content into Excel’s workspace, just drag the column headers (sky blue lines to the right letter by letter ) to meet the proper arrangement of the table like this…

When everything is done, open your MS Word document and paste it! Use the landscape orientation to fit the whole table.
